Athens is not a cheap capital in terms of accommodations, but compared to other European capitals, is neither expensive.
You can find all kinds of accommodations, from hostels to luxury hotels. In this article, I listed the best mid-range accommodations in the city center near the Acropolis and safe areas.
Unfortunately, Athens city center is not all a safe area. Most of the time, when booking accommodation in the city center, we think of being in a secure place to go out every day and night without worrying much about crimes and other terrible things and situations that can ruin our vacation.
Not all the central districts are safe in Athens but don't worry; I have listed some of the best on-a-budget accommodations in secure areas.
These accommodations are all in the city center, far from the dangerous districts, to ensure that you sleep wonderfully in a safe place at night.
These are the safest area in Athens where to look for accommodation and walk around exploring:
Remember that being safe is one of the most important things while travelling. Be constantly vigilant of what happens around you, even in the safest place.
These are the most dangerous Athens district to avoid, where daily drug uses and crime happen daily:
Omnia during the night. During the day Omnia is full of shops, bars and good restaurants
The lower side of Kolonos
Metaxourgio back streets
Now that you got all the information about the districts to avoid and those ones where to look for accommodation, check out my list of mid-range accommodations, all located in very safe areas, all with a minimum of 4.5 of 5 cleaners, breakfast included, bar and restaurant, air conditioning, TV, 24h reception and great guests reviews.
Travel Tips: As soon as you book your next adventure, make sure to buy good travel insurance in case you need to “unfortunately” delay, extend, or cancel your trip. I recommend VisitorsCoverage for short trips and SafetyWing for trips longer than a month.
