Santorini's sunset is one of the most famous and magical experiences to do in Santorini. It is a beautiful, and unmissable experience when on the island. Be on a cliff, with the sea view is stunning by itself at every time of the day.
At sunset, when the sky got filled with different shades of pink and orange, it becomes an unforgettable moment to keep in your memory forever.
That is why I made this list.
To help you find one or more spots perfect for you. Because maybe you prefer to be alone while watching it. Or be in the crowd and experience the sunset crowd of Santorini.
Or you like to be seated in a nice bar with a glass of wine in your hand without any distractions.
Don't worry. I have all this and much more on my list of the best places to watch the sunset in Santorini.

Where to Watch the Sunset in Oia, Santorini
Oia is the most famous place to watch sunsets in Santorini. All the tourists and travelers wait patiently for hours for one of the most amazing natural experiences this planet offers us.
There are different areas in Oia where to watch the sunset.
1. On the way to Amoudi:
When in Oia, walk toward the island's northwest side, down the narrow alley toward Amoudi (there are indications, so don't worry).
Be there at least 1 hour in advance or even two if you visit Santorini during high season.
Find a spot, and do not move from there.
It can get very crowded and uncomfortable with everyone passing through the crowd and pushing everybody. I know because I have been there and it was not as lovely as I imagined.
From the picture above, you can see how many people I had in front of me, I had to climb up to a short wall in front of a shop to try to see something, but still, the number of people in front was obstructing all the view.
2. Oia Castle:
This is one of the most popular spots in Oia; it is a beautiful place to take pictures because you can see both the sunset and the windmills. It gets very crowded quickly, so get there a lot in advance (or visit Santorini from November to March when there are few tourists).

3. Book a villa or a room with SUNSET VIEW:
This is also an excellent way to have a stunning sunset to watch every night and avoid the crowd.
Be careful because only from hotels on the west side of Oia you see the sunset, those on the south side have the Oia cliff that obstructs the view, but you will see the caldera from there.
Have a look at Hotels in Oia where to enjoy a marvelous sunset:
4. Walking up toward the northeast side of Oia:
There is a free area on Oia's north side, with no houses. Just check on Google Maps Agios Ioannis church. No crowd, nothing else around, only you and the sunset.

5. Pacman Sunset Restaurant at Andronis Arcadia:
This is a lovely restaurant with an infinity pool to enjoy a nice cocktail or a Santorini's wine and watch the sunset far from the crowd.

6. Ammoudi Bay Fish Taverna:
This is the best place on the waterfront to enjoy the sunset while having dinner. This restaurant offers fresh fish and some local dishes, which are unmissable.
7. Akrotiri Lighthouse:
This lighthouse is located on the southwestern tip of the island. It is one of the oldest in Greece, a beautiful place to watch the sunset and avoid the crowd. You will still find some people there, but not as many as in Oia, that's for sure.
The street to get there is narrow and rough, and there is a small car park near the lighthouse, so if you are planning to get there, I highly recommend you arrive early to park your car.
Also, be prepared for the strong wind. This lighthouse is located on the top of a cliff, so it is normal.
Where to Watch the Sunset in Fira, Santorini
Fira is the capital of Santorini, and it is (in my opinion) the best place to enjoy the sunset.
It is less crowded than Oia because, at sunset time, all the tourists run toward Oia, so it gets pretty quiet there (or at least when I went there to watch the sunset).
There are many places to relax and watch the famous Santorini sunset. It all depends on your evening plan.

8. Palia Kameni Cocktail Bar/PK Cocktail Bar:
Near Theotokopoulou square in Fira, there is a bar terrace to enjoy the sunset. The place is very stylish, the cocktails are delicious, and the service is perfect, exactly what you need for a perfect holiday evening.

9. Fanari Restaurant:
I love this place because I had a wonderful dinner there. I saw it the first day while I was exploring Fira, and I booked a table straight away to make sure to get the table I wanted, on the lower terrace, in the first raw, to make sure to don't have anything in front of me that can obstruct the view.
Guys, that sunset was incredible, with the perfect romantic music and delicious local Greek food, and the service was friendly and attentive.
We got there early and ordered a bottle of wine and some Greek meze to enjoy an aperitivo while watching the sunset. At the end of it, we ordered dinner.
In this way, we had all the time we needed to talk and take pictures without being distracted by the food (yes, I said it. But trust me, with a sunset like this, you cannot focus on food until it is over).
After the aperitivo, we got a grilled squid and the moussaka.
10. Book a room in a hotel on the cliff of Fira:
Indeed they are expensive, but are they worth the money? Absolutely Yes!
Imagine having your swimming pool, or even the shared one, drink a glass of wine, swim, relax, and enjoy your holiday as you (I am sure) well deserve.
Wouldn't it be great?
Book your accommodation as soon as possible because these rooms are the first fully booked.

11. Argo Restaurant:
A very romantic place where to eat delicious fish and local cuisine while enjoying the stunning view.
Everything is delicious there. Portions are significant and full of taste. Try the shrimp saganaki.
Trust me, you will love it, and a dessert you cannot miss is the orange souffle with chocolate ice cream, a perfect combination of flavors to share with your travel mate/partner.
12. Idol Restaurant Bar:
Idol Restaurant Bar is an excellent place to get a drink while enjoying the sunset and having dinner later. I love the terrace where you can sit on the hanging chairs; so stylish, and the perfect place to take beautiful pictures.
Visiting Santorini on a Budget?
13. Right from the street:
Another place where to enjoy the sunset from Fira is just by the street. Fira is located on a cliff so you won't have any restrictions in front of you. Choose a spot and prepare yourself to take a hundred pictures.
14. Franco's Bar:
Franco's Bar is also a great spot in Fira to enjoy the sunset, the terrace is not very big, but you can easily find a place if you arrive earlier.
As mentioned before, most tourists go to Oia to see the sunset, so it is not so difficult to find a nice spot in Fira at sunset time.
Franco's Bar drinks are not cheap (a glass of wine between 6-10 euros and a cocktail between 15-20 euros), but you are going to have your place where to sit, avoid the crowd and be in a very relaxing place with the sunset all for you, so it is worth it.
Travel Tip: While exploring Fira, book a table for the evening when you see a place you like to have a fantastic sunset view aperitivo or dinner.

15. While on a Cruise:
There are many Sunset Cruises in Santorini to book. A beautiful sailing boat or catamaran will take you to the area in front of Oia, where there is nothing in front of you, only a few people around, the wind blowing through your hair, and the smell of seawater.
That is a beautiful way to enjoy Santorini's sunset.
Some sunset cruises offer dinner with drinks included.

16. Santo Winery:
Undoubtedly one of the best places to go for a wine tasting, so why don't you book your tasting a bit before sunset, so you will end your wine tasting with the famous Santorini's sunset?
You are going to be satisfied, tipsy, and amazed at the same time.
This is the perfect experience to tell everything about to all your friends as soon as you get back home.
