8 Local Places to Eat in Mykonos on a Budget

Have you set your sights on the shimmering shores of Mykonos? Imagine whitewashed houses cascading down cliffs, turquoise waters lapping at golden beaches, and…the price tag making your wallet do a nervous jig.

Let’s be honest, my lovely anxious travelers, Mykonos isn’t exactly known for budget-friendly feasts. But fear not, thrifty foodies! Forget the “champagne wishes on a beer budget” blues – I’m here to unlock the island’s secret stash of delicious (and affordable!) eats as I did on my first visit to Mykonos.

Think mouthwatering souvlaki sizzling on hidden grills, authentic tavernas tucked away in charming alleys, and vibrant cafes where the only thing richer than the flavors is the local charm. So ditch the “Mykonos is only for millionaires” myth, and get ready to tantalize your taste buds without breaking the bank.

Forget overpriced beach clubs and tourist traps, fueling your Mykonian adventure doesn’t have to break the bank. This list unlocks delicious local eats without burning a hole in your wallet.

Remember, location is key – the closer you get to the main town or those Insta-famous beaches, the steeper the price tag. But fear not, budget-savvy foodies! My secret weapon? Locals! They know the hidden gems, the tucked-away tavernas serving mouthwatering goodness at friendly prices.

8 Places to eat in Mykonos on a budget

1. Cosmo Cafè:

At Cosmo cafè, you will be delighted with a delicious breakfast. They serve fresh fruit salads, omelets, toasties, Greek yogurt with muesli, fresh juices, delicious coffee, eggs, and bacon (not Greek-style, but still good for breakfast). Located in the main town of Mykonos Chora, it could become your favorite breakfast place.

Address: Μύκονος 846 00, Greece

2. Attika Bakery:

Attika Bakery is probably the best place in Mykonos to try the delicious local Greek pastries. It is located in the Old Harbour, so you are going to pass by it for sure. Here, they serve both savory and sweet pies made with phyllo pastry.

You will find the famous Spanakopita made with spinach and feta, the Tiropita filled with only cheese, or other options like mixed veggies or meat.

They also make delicious sandwiches you can take with you to the beach. The sweets they have in this place are fantastic. They have most of the famous Greek sweets plus something more.

Some seats are available outside, but if they are all taken, do as I did, buy whatever you fancy to take away, sit along the Old Harbour, and enjoy the sunny day.

3. Artisti Prozymi:

I found Artisti Prozymi because it was on the way to my accommodation, and I fell in love as soon as I entered it. Here, you will find everything you need: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and some snacks to take to the beach.

They have so many different sweets, most typically Greek. They also make delicious bread, Greek savory pies (of all kinds), and sandwiches. There is a section where they sell hot food that you can eat there (there are some tables outside on the terrace) or to take away.

4. Sakis Grill House:

This hidden gem is the perfect place to enjoy a good Gyro in the main town of Chora. Here a Gyro costs 4.5 euros, more expensive than other places in Greece, but it is also quite big and full. They also serve some souvlaki plates with veggies and fries for 14 euros, a delicious Greek salad, and more.

All are delicious, cheap, and local food, perfect for a fast lunch or dinner.

5. Goody’s Burger House:

Burgers are not local Greek food, but they are tasty and cheap. Try this place if you fancy a burger, fries, and salads. It is located outside the main town, so you will need a car/scooter or a bus to get there, but it is well worth moving.

They serve chicken burgers with fries for 6 euros, vegetarian sandwiches for 4 euros, burgers with fries for 8 euros, and a pork gyro for only 3 euros.

6. Odos Araxame:

Located on the island’s east side, Odos Araxame is a place that deserves to be visited. They make homemade Greek food, from breakfast to dinner. Everything is fresh, and the portions are pretty good. If you pass by during the afternoon, this is an excellent place to get a coffee and a slice of cake.

Remember that the orange cake is something you will dream about after you try it.
