Sun-soaked beach on a Greek island with straw umbrellas, lounge chairs, and turquoise water, backed by whitewashed hillside villas. A peaceful setting that reflects why this is one of the best Greek islands for couples seeking both relaxation and romance.

Which Greek island is the least touristy?

It’s tricky to name the single least touristy island, as “least touristy” is relative and depends on the time of year. However, here are a few islands that generally see fewer crowds compared to popular destinations like Mykonos or Santorini:

  • Anafi: This tiny island near Santorini is surprisingly quiet, with a population of less than 300. It offers a peaceful escape with beautiful beaches and hiking trails.
  • Kimolos: Located near Milos, Kimolos is often overlooked by tourists. It boasts lovely beaches, charming villages, and a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Amorgos: Known for its rugged landscapes and hiking trails, Amorgos attracts more nature lovers than party crowds. It’s a great choice for those seeking tranquility and outdoor activities.
  • Astypalea: This butterfly-shaped island in the Dodecanese offers stunning beaches, picturesque villages, and a laid-back vibe. Despite having an airport, it remains relatively undiscovered.
  • Lemnos: Located in the North Aegean, Lemnos is a bit more difficult to reach, which helps keep the tourist numbers down. It’s known for its beautiful beaches, unique landscapes, and opportunities for water sports.

12 Best Greek islands for couples in love in 2026

Quiet beach on the Greek island of Paros with straw umbrellas, soft sand, and clear blue water surrounded by smooth rock formations, as a few visitors enjoy the golden hour light. A tranquil coastal setting perfect for couples seeking the best Greek island for a romantic holiday.

1. Paros: The Cycladic Soul Mate

Let me tell you a secret: Santorini is dreamy, Mykonos is wild, but Paros? It’s my Greek island soul mate, which is why I included it in this list as the first island. I haven’t explored every island paradise yet (working on it!), but trust me when I say Paros is the perfect blend of chill vibes and stunning scenery.

Think of it as Mykonos’ quieter, cooler cousin, with the same charming whitewashed alleys, minus the crowds and sky-high prices. Imagine you’re sprawled on a powder-soft beach, toes wiggling in warm sand, turquoise waves lulling you to sleep and giving you all the relaxation you seek.

Dive into crystal-clear waters, snorkel amongst colorful fish, or grab a good book as I always do and soak up the Greek sunshine (my favorite hobby while on vacation).

Feeling more adventurous? Start your day with a memorable morning horse ride on the beach! Afterwards, you can explore charming villages on a tour hike through the island’s rolling hills. Don’t miss Naoussa, the picturesque fishing village famous for its Venetian harbor, or Lefkes, a stunning, traditional settlement nestled in the mountains.

And let’s not forget the picture-perfect alleys in the main town, Parikia! Think Mykonos’ Instagrammable streets, but with prices that won’t leave you needing a second mortgage.

You will forget what the word anxiety means. Paros has it all if you are looking for relaxing beach days, epic hikes, charming villages, and delicious local food. So, get ready to fall in love with this little slice of Greek paradise as much as I did.

The Perfect Pace and Romantic Vibe

One of the greatest charms of Paros is its gentle, balanced pace. When Lajos and I went there in September, the island was so calm! We loved spending every day on a different beach, enjoying the quiet serenity, and exploring the main towns, which are very charming at night.

Visit Paros during the shoulder season, as I did. You’ll find the popular spots less crowded, making it easier to snag a table for a romantic dinner by the sea in Naoussa or Parikia. My top tip? Rent a car to discover the lesser-known beaches as we did. It gives you the freedom to move easily and find your own hidden Greek paradise.

How to get to Paros?

Many ferries are coming here from Athens, but this island is also (like every Greek island) very well connected to other Cycladic islands. When I went there, I was coming from Mykonos, and then I took a ferry to the island of Ios.

PLAN YOUR TRIP: plan a super-organized trip to Greece and choose the best Greek island to visit

BEST FOODS TO EAT: from local dishes to delicious sweets

TIPS AND TRICKS: all the tips and mistakes to avoid in Greece

WHAT TO BUY: handmade Greek souvenirs to buy

BEST GREEK PLACES: From the ancient Athens, to the famous Santorini and Mykonos.

Collage promoting holidays to the Greek islands for couples, featuring crystal-clear turquoise waters, a scenic stairway leading to a remote beach, a rocky cove, and a small boat floating inside a sea cave. The heading reads “Let’s Explore: Greece A symphony of blue and white, where history and beauty intertwine,” capturing the romantic and adventurous spirit of a couple’s getaway.

2. Kos: The Best Greek Island for the History-Loving, Lux-Seeking Couple

You know me, my lovely, anxious traveler. I’m a Type-A planner, and I don’t believe in leaving romance to chance. When my husband Lajos and I travel, we look for destinations that offer both deep relaxation and cultural immersion, the perfect antidote to our demanding careers.

That’s precisely what we found on Kos. It’s got that dreamy Aegean vibe without the relentless crowds of some of its neighbors. This island is truly a beautiful blend of ancient history and boutique beach bliss, making it one of the most romantic Greek islands.

Forget frantic scheduling because Kos is set up for easy, intimate connections. I’m talking golden sunsets, secluded spots, and adults-only luxury hotels that get couples, like the gorgeous OKU Kos or the Aqua Blu Boutique Hotel + Spa.

Roman Ruins and Romantic Retreats

You’re a pair who loves exploring, so listen up. Kos is an open-air museum where you can literally walk hand in hand through history. You absolutely have to visit the Asclepeion; it’s not just a ruin, it’s where Hippocrates himself taught medicine. You can breathe in that serene atmosphere of ancient holistic healing and find your inner zen together.

For a sunset experience that beats any rooftop bar, drive up to the mountain village of Zia. We watched the sky explode in colors from a vine-covered taverna up there, and it was pure magic. This island offers incredible opportunities for shared adventure, whether it’s a wine tasting tour or a private snorkeling expedition in the crystal-clear Aegean.

Island Hopping for Two

One of the reasons Lajos and I adore Greece is the ease with which we can find new experiences, and Kos is a fantastic hub for that. You can take a short, scenic boat trip to the volcanic island of Nisyros. It’s the perfect half-day excursion that gives you bragging rights without requiring a three-page itinerary; that’s the travelling to Greece tips you’ll get from me every time.

As a super-organized traveler who has been to Greece four times, I know that getting there has to be as stress-free as the vacation itself. You can easily book your flight ticket right to Kos International Airport.

How to get to Kos Island?

Or, if you’re following my Athens travel guide, you can fly by plane from Athens airport in under an hour. A ferry ride from Athens port Piraeus is long, around 11 hours, but totally doable if you want to save a travel day. For all your water transport needs, always use the ferry websites I used to travel to Greece for the most reliable schedules.

To learn more about Greece, check out the “Best Guide of Greece,” which contains all the information you need to plan your next dream vacation.

Travel Safety Tip: As soon as you book your next adventure, buy good travel insurance in case you need to “unfortunately” delay, extend, or cancel your trip. I usually find good deals on VISITORSCOVERAGE for up to 1 month of trip length and SAFETYWING for longer trips.  They are insurance companies that cover everything related to your travel.

3. Santorini: The Ultimate Destination for a Glamorous, Romantic Getaway

Santorini is the poster child for romance, one of the best Greek islands for couple, and for good reason. My husband Lajos and I have been there, of course, we have, and I can tell you it’s worth the hype if you plan it right. The key to enjoying this volcanic stunner is to focus on private luxury to melt away any stress.

Santorini is all about creating those perfect, unhurried moments together. Forget wrestling crowds in Oia for the Santorini sunsets and splurge instead on a luxury villa with your own private view.

You deserve to savor that world-famous sunset from your own private cave pool hotel, maybe at the Canaves Oia Suites or the Andronis Luxury Suites. That is how you upgrade your vacation from a crowded tourist spot to an intimate haven.

Savor the Romance, Conquer the Crowds

As an expert who has written the definitive Santorini travel guide, I’ve got your back on avoiding those peak-season mishaps. Your romantic itinerary should center on food, wine, and water. You absolutely must book a reservation at a cliffside terrace restaurant like Ambrosia in Oia for a candlelit dinner.

While you’re eating, check out my guide on what to eat in Greece so you can tackle the menu like a local. For the ultimate shared experience, sign up for a catamaran cruise with a BBQ lunch.

You can jump off into the Aegean, visit the day trips to hot springs, volcanic islands, and Thirassia, and toast each other as the sun dips below the horizon on a sunset cruise. The only thing you should worry about is putting on enough sunscreen to get the best tan and avoid sunburn.

Read my Santorini articles.

Deep Dives and Dessert

Santorini offers the perfect opportunities to deepen your connection over shared cultural experiences. The volcanic soil makes the island’s vineyards unique, so book one of the many Santorini food tours or the wine tastings, it’s a fun and delicious way to learn something new together.

You can also explore the traditional village of Pyrgos for a slice of authentic island life and then dive into the article on Greek desserts to pick your celebratory after-dinner treat.

For that coveted keepsake, book one of those fabulous romantic photo shoots. I know, a little cheesy, but trust me, those pictures will make your demanding job feel a million miles away. If you follow my guide to become a super-organized traveler, I even have a free summer bag checklist waiting for you so you can pack without a single moment of anxiety.

See all Santorini activities and tours.

How to get to Santorini?

As I mentioned in my Athens travel guide, if you plan a quick two-day trip to the Greek capital, flying there first is often the most economical option. Flying directly to Santorini is generally more expensive. Lajos and I chose to fly to Athens, spend 2 days there, and then catch a ferry to reach Santorini.

You have a choice between the high-speed ferries, which cut the travel time down to about four hours, or the slower ones that can take up to ten. The faster boats are always worth the splurge, in my opinion. Santorini is also a significant hub, so you can easily hop to a dozen other stunning destinations, like Mykonos or Milos, via ferry after your romantic stay.

Greece island hopping Tip: Check out Ferryhopper, the best ferry website to reach the Greek islands. Where you will find all the ferry routes available in Greece.

Sunny beach on Skiathos island with rows of lounge chairs under straw umbrellas, colorful kayaks on the sand, and people swimming in the calm, clear water, set against a backdrop of rugged hills.

4. Skiathos: The Perfect Destination for the Adventurous, Fun-Loving Duo

Let’s talk about the island where Lajos and I rediscovered our inner teenagers, in the most glamorous way possible, of course. We’ve conquered the famous destinations, but sometimes you need a place that’s pure, uncomplicated fun.

Enter Skiathos, one of the best Greek islands to visit for couples. It’s got that Mamma Mia magic, but with enough history and secluded spots to make it feel yours exclusively. This is the best island for couples who love to balance daytime adventure with late-night cocktails.

You can spend the morning exploring incredible places and then easily find a vibrant bar come evening. As someone who has written a guide on mistakes to avoid in Greece, I’d say not visiting the Sporades is a major one. Skiathos is absolutely a must for a well-rounded trip.

Beaches, Boats, and Blissful Balance

The beaches here are simply stunning, and finding one all to yourself is totally possible. This is where you swap that high-pressure itinerary for easy-going exploration with your partner. The best advice I can give you is to explore hidden coves on a day cruise.

It’s the ultimate romantic move: sunshine, sea breeze, and finding a patch of turquoise water only you two can enjoy. After a day of exploring, you’ll work up an appetite. You must try the fantastic local tavernas and their amazing regional delicacies.

And because you’re a couple that likes to live a little, I’ve got a great article with remedies for an upset gut, just in case you sample a few too many local spirits or maybe one too many desserts, as we always do on vacation.

Tips for Traveling Together

Skiathos is built for spontaneous romance, which is an excellent test of your relationship, but don’t panic! It’s all about shared discovery. For the inevitable sun exposure that comes with chasing all that beauty, remember to always pack good aloe vera sunscreen.

I also have the best how to get rid of a sunburn fast tips tucked away in my travel knowledge, just in case you forget a spot. If this is the first time you’re traveling with your favorite person, check out my essential tips for traveling with your partner.

My Type-A expertise is all about making the logistics seamless so you can focus on each other, not stress. This is truly the destination where you can create those unforgettable stories together.

How to get to Skiathos?

Getting to Skiathos requires a little bit of planning, but I’ve already mapped it out for you. The most common route is taking a ferry from the mainland ports like Volos or Mantoudi. If you are flying into Athens first, you will need to first travel to the port of Volos, it is about a 3.5-hour drive or bus ride.

From there, the ferry crossing to Skiathos is relatively quick, around 1.5 to 2.5 hours. To make sure you get the best deal and reliable departure times, you should check out all the ferry routes on my favorite ferry website.

Collage of iconic scenes from Zante island, Greece, featuring the turquoise waters and white cliffs of Navagio Beach from above, and a close-up of the famous rusted shipwreck resting on the sand. Text reads: “Greece: Sun-kissed shores, sapphire waters, and stories etched in stone,” highlighting the island’s dramatic coastal beauty and history.

5. Zante: Adventure and Beauty for the Thrill-Seeking, Romantic Couple

My lovely, anxious traveler, if your idea of romance involves shared adrenaline and scenery that legitimately takes your breath away, then Zante is calling as the best island in Greece for couple. Yes, it’s home to the famous Shipwreck Beach (Navagio), and yes, it’s even more stunning in person.

Lajos and I absolutely loved the vibrant energy here; it’s the perfect place to let loose without sacrificing that luxurious feeling. The key to enjoying Zante is balancing the famous spots with the intimate, quieter moments you crave.

This destination is ideal for couples who want to pack their vacation days with excitement and then unwind with a phenomenal dinner. If you want to dive into the culture and support local artisans, Zante is a fantastic choice. You must try a ceramic-making workshop together, it’s such a fun and unique way to spend an afternoon.

Secret Spots and Stress-Free Packing

As a super-organized veteran of four trips to Greece, I can tell you that the best memories are often found off the beaten path. Rent a car or book a road trip to discover secret villages tucked away in the hills. This is where you’ll find the most authentic local Greek food and the best spots to pick up delicious Greek desserts after a day of exploration.

For the perfect memento, skip the tourist shops and look for beautiful, local handmade Greek souvenirs in these smaller towns. Since adventure is on the menu, we have to talk logistics. I’m all about minimizing travel stress, and that starts with packing.

Before you even think about packing, read my free guide with tips for packing a carry-on stress-free. Trust me, knowing everything is organized is half the battle won. The other half? Making sure you apply a good sunscreen religiously, you want a gorgeous glow, not a lobster look! Don’t forget to check out my downloadable PDF beach bag checklist, too.

Organized Adventure is the Best Adventure

Zante is overflowing with potential activities, which is why your Type-A planning is your superpower here. You can book sunset boat tours, go scuba diving with underwater photos, or take a cooking class.

I rely on trusted platforms like GetYourGuide and Viator for stress-free bookings, and I’ve compiled all my favorite links for planning over on my resources page. Use those tools to book ahead, eliminate uncertainty, and enjoy your stress-free getaway.

How to get to Zante?

Getting to Zante is incredibly easy, which is a significant win for the anxious traveler! The island has an international airport, so you can often fly directly from many European cities. If you are island hopping, a highly recommended strategy, Zante is well-connected by ferry.

You can easily reach it from nearby islands like Kefalonia and Corfu, which opens up endless possibilities for an extended romantic trip. To map out your water journeys with zero fuss, check out all the ferry routes on my favorite ferry website.

Travel Tip: If you arrive at your Destination too early for your check-in or your departure time is too many hours after your check-out, and you need a place to store your luggage, check out Radical Storage in Greece, a website that shows you all the safe places to keep your bags while still exploring.

Woman relaxing under a thatched canopy at a beachside café on Naxos, Greece, with a peaceful view of the sunset over the Aegean Sea, rows of straw umbrellas, and a sailboat in the distance.

6. Naxos: Authenticity and Adventure for the Culturally Curious Couple

Let me introduce you to Naxos, the quiet powerhouse of the Cyclades. This is where Lajos and I go when we want to escape everything and truly feel like we’re part of Greek life.

It’s got massive, emerald mountains and history that predates most civilizations, all without the overwhelming tourist crush. Naxos is truly perfect for the couple that wants to ditch stress and dive deep into culture and nature.

The main town is postcard-perfect, but the real romance is found hiking through the interior villages or discovering those endless, untouched beaches. When planning a trip, my number one rule is always to check out my dedicated plan a trip page before starting your itinerary to get all the tips you need.

Adventures and Ancient Secrets for Two

The sheer variety of experiences here means you can tailor every day to your mood. Want an organized outing in one of the best islands to visit in Greece for couples? The boat tour options in Naxos are fantastic, but for a truly intimate experience, I recommend you book a kayak tour with snorkeling and a picnic.

That’s organized fun that allows you to feel completely alone in paradise with your partner. Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades, so you have plenty of room to explore and get lost in the best way possible.

Before you go, make sure to read my article on tourist mistakes to avoid in Greece, because Naxos has its own set of little quirks to navigate. By planning, you can prevent common travel blunders and ensure a smooth, romantic adventure.

Relax, Recharge, and Repeat

After a long day of exploring ancient ruins or scaling Mount Zas, a great night’s sleep is essential. I know that travel anxiety can creep into your rest, so check out my How to Sleep Better on Vacation guide. You deserve that deep, restorative slumber.

This island is truly a masterclass in stress-free travel, especially if you follow my methods. Have you picked up my ultimate guide to becoming a super-organized traveler yet? It’s the blueprint. Before you leave, make sure you pack your beach bag with my personal checklist, so you arrive completely ready to relax on Naxos’s endless golden sand.

How to get to Naxos?

Naxos is easily reached via ferry from Athens, which typically takes between three and six hours. I always advise my readers to splurge for the faster ferries, even if they are slightly more expensive; less time traveling means more time relaxing with your loved one.

While Naxos has a small national airport, it’s often easier to fly into nearby Mykonos International Airport and take a speedy, one-hour ferry ride over. For an even more comprehensive guide to traveling to Greece, remember to check out The Complete Guide to Greece, where all my articles are linked for seamless planning.

Busy beach on Corfu island with rows of sunbeds and umbrellas lining the sandy shore, visitors swimming in clear blue water, and rocky hills in the background under a bright summer sky.

7. Corfu: Old-World Charm for the Sophisticated Couple in Love

Oh, Corfu. Forget the whitewashed cubes for a moment and imagine Venetian arches, cobbled streets, and pastel-colored buildings that make you feel like you’ve stepped into an Italian romance movie.

This island is a UNESCO-listed masterpiece, and it’s an absolute dream for couples who want their getaway to feel both culturally rich and effortlessly chic.

Lajos and I adore Corfu and consider it the most romantic island in Greece because it allowed us to indulge our love for history and luxury simultaneously. The Old Town is a maze of discovery, and your romantic mission should be to find the most beautiful, authentic places to stay.

Look for one of those gorgeous, restored, sumptuous villas tucked away in a quiet corner of the town; it’s the perfect, intimate home base for your adventures.

Taste the Romance, Explore the History

Corfu’s food is truly special, blending Greek zest with Italian elegance. Dedicate a romantic afternoon to a local food tasting. You’ll discover amazing Greek food to taste like Pastitsada, a local pasta dish, that tastes like pure love on a plate.

Be sure to save room for delicious Greek desserts, too; they are the sweetest way to end any date night. After you’ve fueled up, head out to explore the stunning coastline. Whether you are sunbathing or hiking a rugged trail, always prioritize protecting your skin.

I’ve got the best tips to get the best tan without burning to visit Greece safely, because a ruined trip is often a sunburnt trip. When it comes to souvenirs, skip the mass-produced stuff and seek out the local handmade Greek souvenirs; they hold the true Corfiot soul.

A beach on Hydra island with two empty lounge chairs under a straw umbrella, set on a rocky shoreline with clear turquoise water and distant views of mountainous islands across the sea under a bright blue sky.

8. Hydra: The Car-Free Haven for the Couple Seeking Pure Serenity

If the thought of traffic and car rental stress makes your shoulders tense up, then Hydra is your salvation. This charming little island is completely car-free, forcing you to slow down and focus only on your beautiful surroundings and your partner.

It’s the ultimate, mandatory detox from your hectic, demanding career. This is, without a doubt, one of the best quiet Greek islands for couples. Lajos and I found Hydra to be the perfect antidote to travel fatigue. It’s peaceful, intimate, and designed for strolling hand in hand.

You won’t find better travel tips to visit Greece than this: ditch the wheels and embrace the donkeys, which are the primary mode of transport! It’s wonderfully unique and instantly dials down the stress level to zero.

Slow Living and Speedy Ferries

Hydra’s beauty is in its simplicity. Spend your days exploring the harbor, discovering hidden trails, or finding secluded spots perfect for a romantic swim. All that walking will definitely work up an appetite, and thankfully, the local tavernas offer superb cuisine.

You can look forward to indulging in delicious Greek food that tastes even better after a day of exploration. While Hydra is wonderfully peaceful by day, the harbor does come alive after sunset.

You can enjoy a sophisticated cocktail before tucking into a quiet dinner, or join the buzzier tavernas if you feel like dancing. The best part? No frantic search for a taxi at the end of the night, just a quiet walk back to your hotel.

How to get to Hydra?

One of Hydra’s most significant selling points for the organized traveler is its sheer accessibility. It makes for one of the easiest island hops! It takes only two hours by ferry from Piraeus (Athens port) to reach this stunning destination.

A quiet, rocky cove with clear turquoise water and a small sandy beach shaded by pine trees, capturing the natural charm of a beach in Rhodes, Greece. A seaside taverna with Greek flags sits just above the cliffs, adding a local touch.

9. Rhodes: The Knight’s Island & The Ultimate Autumn Escape

Ditch the guidebooks and grab your imagination because we’re jet-setting to Rhodes, the island where ancient myths meet beachside bliss! Forget feeling overwhelmed, you can easily conquer Rhodes by being super organized (like your favorite travel guru!).

As many think of the Greek islands, Rhodes is more than just a beach paradise. Located in the south, this island could be the perfect autumn and spring escape if you are looking for warm weather. I know firsthand, I visited it with my parents in November, and we loved to spend time exploring and swimming (the water was still 21 degrees in November).

Its grand scale, rich history, and stunning beaches make it a strong contender for the best Greek island for romantic couples and energetic families alike.

History, Adventure, and Romance

Rhodes offers an incredible blend of activities. For the traveler drawn to the water, think boat tours whisking you to hidden sea caves, snorkeling adventures where exotic fish become your new besties, and stand-up paddleboarding that’ll make you feel like a mermaid queen.

Feeling more “Indiana Jones” than “Ariel”? You must explore the magnificent, UNESCO-protected Medieval Old Town of Rhodes, which transports you straight back to the time of the Knights of St. John. For a lighter adventure, uncover secrets in the renowned Butterfly Valley (Petaloudes), or embark on a delicious wine-tasting tour that’ll tantalize your taste buds.

Another essential stop is the picturesque village of Lindos, crowned by its ancient Acropolis, offering some of the most spectacular, unforgettable views on the island.

To ensure you don’t miss a thing, check out the organized activities and tours in Rhodes, a perfect way to choose the right adventures for your specific needs, whether that’s an archaeological tour or a relaxing day trip.

And let’s not forget the nightlife, honey! Rhodes rocks after dark with buzzing bars and electrifying clubs. But if romance is in the air, set sail on a sunset dinner cruise, the perfect way to sweep your loved one off their feet. So get ready to fall in love with Rhodes, the island where every day is unforgettable.

How to get to Rhodes?

Rhodes International Airport (RHO) is well connected with most European capitals and other minor cities. If you plan to do some island hopping, remember that Rhodes is connected by ferry to Turkey, Athens, the Dodecanese Islands, the Cyclades Islands, Crete, the Aegean Islands, and also Ikaria and Samos.

Check out ferry prices and schedules.

Travel Anxiety Tip: Ditch the map panic & embrace Greek dreams! Skip the “where am I?” freakout & join a multi-day Greece tour – think chariot ride to relaxed bliss, not lost-in-translation tears. Available for tours from 3 to 27 days in Greece!

Iconic white windmills with thatched roofs and red accents on Mykonos island, standing against a bright blue sky near the rocky coastline. A classic symbol of Cycladic architecture and Mykonos' charm.

10. Mykonos: The Cosmopolitan Cyclone of the Cyclades

The famous Mykonos is a cosmopolitan destination where you can have your dream vacation. In Mykonos, you can party all night every night and spend hours sightseeing. In the town’s little alleys, you will lose yourself while taking so many pictures that you will run out of battery quickly, as I did.

With its unique blend of glamorous nightlife and cultural depth, it is one of the ultimate islands in Greece for couple trips, friend groups, and families alike!

There are so many things to do in Mykonos; you could never get bored! You will enjoy delicious Greek food in its beach bars, traditional tavernas, and restaurants with sea views. For sightseeing, a must-visit spot is Little Venice, with its colorful 18th-century houses built right on the water, offering a perfect, romantic setting for sunset cocktails.

Don’t miss the iconic Kato Mili Windmills perched above the town, or the stunning asymmetrical architecture of the Panagia Paraportiani Church. For the ultimate sightseeing day trip, take a boat to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of Delos Island, one of the most important archaeological sites in all of Greece.

Luxury, Budget, and Balance

In Mykonos, you can have a super luxury holiday in one of its beautiful villas or resorts. Still, you can also find some lovely bed and breakfasts at a reasonable price, as I did, owned by locals with a fantastic sea view.

If you are traveling on a budget, my advice is to book a place not too close to the main town, where you will surely be able to sleep all night with the windows open, far from the noisy parties. You must rent a car to move around or catch the local buses.

We rented a car, and we never had an issue finding a parking spot when we visited Mykonos in September. Remember that Mykonos is not only a party island; it is a beautiful place with much to offer to every kind of traveler, including families. Lajos and I did not party at all, and we loved it.

To get all the tips and information you need to plan your trip to Mykonos, I have a complete Mykonos travel guide with everything you need for a fantastic vacation.

Getting There and Island Hopping

You can reach Mykonos by plane via its international airport, which connects to many European capitals and other smaller cities. You can also get it by ferry from Athens or one of the islands nearby, like Andros, Paros, Santorini, Naxos, Tinos, Delos, or Syros.

When I went to Mykonos, Lajos and I took a ferry after visiting Athens. Then we took a ferry to Paros and Ios, and continued our journey to Santorini. It was a fantastic 16-day trip, and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Busy beach on Crete island with sunbathers, a red lifeguard boat, and a lifeguard tower in the foreground, backed by turquoise water and white buildings on a hillside. A vibrant summer scene showing the island’s lively coastal vibe.

11. Crete: The Island of Eternal Sunshine and Ancient Secrets

Ditch the winter blues and grab your swimsuit because we’re island hopping to Crete, the Greek sunshine haven where warm weather is practically a year-round resident! Forget bulky sweaters and sniffly noses, Crete’s the Aegean gem where you can trade snow angels for sandcastles all year.

Thanks to its size, history, and diverse offerings, it is widely considered the best island in the Mediterranean Sea in winter, offering everything from secluded coves to vibrant cities.

You’re going to be snorkeling in crystal-clear waters so turquoise that your Instagram followers will be jealous. Every dip is like swimming in a liquid postcard, with colorful fish flitting around like underwater confetti. But Crete’s not just a beach paradise (although, let’s be honest, who wouldn’t go there for the beach?).

Lace up your hiking boots and explore dramatic mountains and lush forests; each step is a postcard-perfect adventure. For a truly unforgettable experience, tackle the epic Samaria Gorge, one of the longest in Europe, or explore the charming Venetian harbors and old towns of Chania and Rethymno.

Fancy indulging in the island’s famous healthy cuisine? You absolutely should; it’s the perfect place to sample incredible local wine and olive oils on a tour straight from the producers.

Conquer Crete with Organization

Feeling overwhelmed by all the options? Don’t sweat it! By being super organized (like your super-organized travel blogger!), you can conquer Crete with ease.

Book your excursions in advance, think visiting the ancient Minoan ruins of Knossos, which whisper secrets of Europe’s oldest civilization; charming villages begging to be explored, and bustling cities with enough shopping and nightlife to keep you entertained until the sun dips below the horizon.

So pack your sense of adventure and your camera (because, trust me, you’ll be snapping pics like crazy!), and get ready to fall in love with Crete, the island where every day is a sun-kissed adventure.

How to get to Crete?

You can get there by plane from every European capital and other major cities, landing in either Chania (CHQ) or Heraklion (HER). If you prefer to come by ferry, there are always ferries from Athens to the islands of the Aegean Sea and the Cyclades.

Colorful hillside village on Kefalonia island with pastel buildings, flowering bougainvillea, and waterfront tavernas lining a calm turquoise bay, with sailboats anchored nearby and a pebbled beach in the foreground.

12. Kefalonia: Where Tranquility Meets Turquoise

Pack your relaxation gear and forget about stress because we’re setting sail for Kefalonia, the Ionian island where turquoise waters whisper secrets and delicious food fills your soul! Forget the thumping bass of party islands; Kefalonia is all about tranquility, romance, and family fun.

Imagine curling up on a pristine beach, toes wiggling in the sand, and fresh seafood wafting from a nearby taverna. Pure bliss, right?

I went to Kefalonia a few years ago with my best friends and our parents (yes, I still travel with my parents sometimes), and it was a fantastic vacation, full of relaxation and good Greek food.

Dive into hidden coves, each more stunning than the last. Explore dramatic coastlines on a boat tour to Ithaka, feeling the spray of the sea on your face.

Want to channel your inner Indiana Jones? You will love exploring the mystical underground Lake of Melissani, where the sun, shining through an opening in the cave ceiling, turns the water an electric blue, or the truly otherworldly cave of Drogarati, famous for its impressive stalactites and acoustics.

And for the foodies? Oh, you’re in for a treat! Imagine succulent seafood caught mere hours before it lands on your plate, the taste of the Ionian Sea bursting with every bite. To truly immerse yourself in the local flavors, be sure to look into food tours in Kefalonia that will take you from local vineyards to traditional tavernas.

Hey Traveler!

Postcard-Perfect Beauty

Remember that movie “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”? The one that made everyone swoon over dreamy Greek islands? Well, guess where it was filmed? That’s right, Kefalonia!

And if you’re looking for postcard-perfect beauty, don’t miss Myrtos Beach, voted one of the most stunning in the world. The stark white pebbles contrast beautifully with the crystal-clear water and lush vegetation; it’s like stepping into a painting.

So ditch the anxiety and get ready to fall in love with Kefalonia. It’s the island where relaxation meets adventure, deliciousness meets discovery, and every corner promises an unforgettable memory.

How to get to Kefalonia?

The best way to get to Kefalonia is by plane, thanks to its airport connection to most leading European cities, landing at Argostoli Airport (EFL).

Otherwise, if you plan to go there by ferry from the mainland, ferries depart from the ports of Patras and Kyllini. If you would like to get there from Italy by ferry and take your car as our parents did, there are ferries from Brindisi to Kefalonia.

The journey lasts about 15 hours. Still, you will spend a day at sea, and once you get there, you will have your car to visit the island (this is precisely what my parents did when we met in Kefalonia to spend a week together while Pamela and I flew there from London).

Check out ferry prices and schedules.
